Who We Are?

Second Nature Lab is Maccaferri’s editorial platform dedicated to climate change adaptation. It is a space for ideas, conversations, and case studies at the intersection of infrastructure, landscape, and resilience.

Our Mission

We belong to an animal species capable of inventing ever-new tools — and of recognising when those tools exceed their purpose. Second Nature Lab was born from this awareness: that designing for the future means designing responsibly, with knowledge of what came before and care for what will follow.

Our mission is to fuel dialogue among the many actors involved in climate adaptation: those who identify the need for intervention, those who envision what must be done, and those who bring projects to life. Environmental, social, and organisational sustainability can only be achieved by keeping this conversation alive.

Second Nature Lab is Maccaferri’s contribution to that conversation — built on 140 years of working at the ridge between nature and culture, between ambition and responsibility.

What We Publish

We publish long-form articles, expert interviews, multimedia reportages, and data-driven analysis — all exploring how infrastructure, technology, policy, and culture are responding to the accelerating changes of our planet.

Our contributors include engineers, scientists, environmental philosophers, urban planners, policy makers, and practitioners from around the world. Each piece is crafted to be authoritative yet accessible: rigorous in its sources, clear in its language, and relevant to readers across disciplines.

Second Nature Lab is updated bi-weekly. Contributions are addressed, ultimately, to the generations who will inherit the decisions we make today.
